Gratitude Sunday

Yesterday afternoon I was reading the Ensign and came across this great article "The Value of Experiencing and Expressing Gratitude" by Vaugh E. Worthen Ph. D. It was so direct and summoned an attitude of change for me, I really need to be thankful for small, big, horrible and wonderful things. I am going to take each Sunday afternoon and use this post as my Gratitude Journal. I am challenging myself to "record my thoughts and emotions" regarding these gratitudes. This is the quote on starting a Gratitude Journal "Record Daily or several times a week three to five blessings or tender mercies you have felt or experienced- Your purpose is to relive and savor those experiences, encouraging you to experience them more often."

  1. Knowledge and Intellect: I was able to share somethings with a dear friend regarding a subject I knew well. I shared the knowledge I had gained through experience to this woman and felt so grateful that I had it to give.
  2. Fresh Food: I chopped up 8 or ten carrots yesterday for snacks this week. They were fresh and yummy and will help give vital nutrients to the little bodies that need it in my home.
  3. Sleep: My daughter who is the most obnoxiously horrible sleeper, slept all last night. Even with the time change I felt really rested. Ahhhhhh...... so wonderful.

I so needed to read this. Jason and I were just talking yesterday about our struggle with Spencer and his ungrateful attitude. We were trying to figure out if it's something that he's inadvertently learned from us (really, just from me). I hate to admit that I may at times set the wrong example by not 'experiencing and expressing' my gratitude often enough. Manly just experiencing it in the smaller, daily things. It's something I really need to focus on. I'm so glad you posted this!
