The beach

I have finally had a spare moment to recap the family vacation to Pacific City, Oregon. We had such a memorable trip in so many ways. I have only about half of the trip in these pictures the rest will come when I get copies from family. The biggest and best part of the trip came on Thursday when my sister-in-law Danna's boyfriend surprised us all by flying up and proposing to her on the beach. It was a very special moment and one that none of us will forget. To read about this amazing proposal go here.

This is the first time we went to the beach. There is a large sand hill you have to climb to get to the actual ocean. The boys loved climbing this and running down the other side.

This is a beautiful shot of John, George and Sam.

Here is Jack enjoying a little snack of sand. He was a little shy of the sand at first but he really grew to love it by the end of the week.

This is a shot of Joe (John's brother) and his kids.

Tillamook Cheese Factory and Ice Cream Shop. One of my favorite stops and it was so delicious. The tour is free and they have a great gift shop and taster station of all the cheeses they produce. They also have the Ice Cream Shop where you can get almost any flavor of Tillamook ice cream. It was so yummy.

Jack enjoying some "German Chocolate Cake" ice cream.

After each day of fun beach play we ended up either walking back to the cabin or in this case driving. On days when the sand got to great George would strip him self naked and turn the beach into a nudist beach. Those trips home would be driving ones. {Could you imagine me walking him back, completely covered in sand and nude? :) }

Jack being escorted home from the nude beach.

We spent one day at Newport Beach enjoying the docks and some shopping. We saw these huge seals right outside a fishing boat cleaning area. The boys loved seeing them and hearing them bark.
This picture only shows a few but there were probably 15 in this one area.

The boys having some fun watching the boats. We got the chance to take George to the Oregon Coast Aquarium
, it was amazing and well worth the money.

On the drive home we took the Washington side and we stopped at Stonehenge. This is a fabulous stop and we had fun playing hide and seek in it.

This is an actual replica of Stonehenge that is in England.

This is Maryhill Mansion, this was built by Sam Hill for his wife Mary as their summer home in 1914. It is now a museum. We did not go in but we drove the grounds.

The grounds of the mansion is home to many exotic birds. This guy would not move, beautiful thing to be stuck in back of. There is also an albino peacock on the grounds as well. This was a great stop and we enjoyed the beauty of the area.

Me spending 6+ hours driving home. I get car sick so I drove most of the way. Fun!

Looks like lots of fun. We did the Oregon Coast Aquarium, too just over a week ago. It was so much fun for the kids and for us, too. Definitely worth the money.

Great pics and fun times. Glad your first trip went well and that was quite funny to hear about the "nude" beach. Kids make it all worthwhile.

Thanks again for meeting me at Costco for the second time. Maybe I will have to get a membership again.

Are you still finding sand in everything you took?

Wonderful pictures and commentary, Sara. We lived just an hour from Newport for eleven years when your kids were very young. Your pictures brought back so many memories of the kids on the beach and at the aquarium. I even have a picture of Mark naked at the beach when he was three. He had the same attitude about it as your George.
