Packing....

The question:
"How do you pack for two small boys, a husband a dog and anything and everything you might need for a long car ride and a week at the beach?"

The Answer:
I have made out a list that is a little over a page long (this would be written in small single space). This list includes everything we own (well not quite but almost). I have always been an "over packer". For a weekend away when I was single I would pack 2 1/2 bags. I can only imagine what this trips baggage total will come to. I fear that I am losing the peaceful feeling and excitement of this trip as I struggle to prep for it. To my credit this will be our first big family vacation with both boys. I am a little nervous. Do you ever feel like that over paranoid mom who seems to lose her self in the small details. So what if I don't pack enough clean socks for every day, or I forget to bring a spare set of everything. Does this make me the worlds worst mother? LOL. Not really, I am enjoying every minute of it. I love lists and I love checking things off. My travel countdown has begun and I am so excited.

I've gotten much better at this after many, many trips home with the girls. The big question is...will you have easy access to a washer/dryer? If you do, then pack one outfit for each day and one extra. If you have need for more (and you will after a trip in the sand and waves) you can always wash them. I still pack everything the girls need in one big duffel bag. And Kenzie is 7 and her clothes are much bulkier nowadays. I let them each take a backpack with a few selected toys, books and favorite stuffed animals. Beach trips are always harder cause you often bring in your own food and sand toys and towels, etc. Give yourself a break, take a deep breath and have fun! I always tell Nate that I need a vacation of my own after packing and getting us all ready for one. It's always hardest on the mom! :-)

Sounds really fun to me. I have calmed way down about things like that. Because I only have one and I figure I can buy most anything if they really needed it. But have a beach of a time Sara..

Can't wait for the pictures.

We pack everything, including the kitchen sink. I'd rather be over prepared than underprepared. Shayla is right, it all depends on the washer and dryer.
don't forget tylenol and cold medicine--it always comes in handy.

I don't ever want to forget anything, because that would mean buying something I already have, and that drives me crazy.
A week at the beach sounds like a blast. Take lots of pics.

The beach! How fun! I can't wait to hear all about it.

Funny that your hubby wanted it out there that your bags are NOT pink.

Yeah, John's comment cracked me up. Shayla, shockingly, you and I pack exactly the same way. Debie, that is one of my hardest things to do ever, is buy something I already own! Funny. Hope you have a blast on your trip, Sara. I totally understand the nervousness that comes when preparing for a trip and wishing it would just go away so you could relax and enjoy what is supposed to be a VACATION!! Hopefully you're more successful at it than I am.

Great idea... you have to make a list... what a busy lady you are:) Love the luggage pict (is that really your luggage... if so, I want them! If not, you need to get them:)
Have a great vacation! (We're going to the Oregon Coast for a reunion in July... so excited!)
